How to set up a dartboard to a stand

A dartboard stand is the perfect solution for players who want to easily move their board around the home (or bar or clubhouse) or for playing darts on-the-go. If you live in rented or temporary accommodation, or if you just want to try darts out without drilling holes in your wall, then a dart board stand is the answer.

Darts Corner stocks a vast range of dart board stands that are fully portable and lightweight, ideal for helping you play your favourite game in any location you want! The stands in our collection come with easy-to-follow instructions and are quick to both assemble and put away once you have finished playing.

What to look for when choosing a dart board stand

The most important things to look for when choosing a dartboard stand include the materials it is made from and how easy the stand is to assemble. You want a stand that is made of durable materials, but is also lightweight so that you can easily carry it with you if you are taking it with you on your travels. A dartboard stand that is simple to put up is also beneficial as you don’t want to spend a lot of time assembling the stand and also afterwards when you are dismantling it.

The Mission RotaPro Travel Stand is one of our most popular darts stands at Darts Corner. This stand includes a revolutionary bracketing system which easily fits to your dartboard using only one screw. If you have young children that you want to introduce to the game, this stand is ideal as you can quickly adjust the height of the board to make it easier for beginners to play.

Watch the video below for a closer look at the Mission RotaPro Travel Stand with Sky Sports commentator Wayne Mardle.

Most stands will also come with a pin attached as part of a locking pin system which you need to slot in place once you have assembled the stand. This will ensure that you have an accurate height for your dartboard for every throw.

As they are two very popular options, we will go through a step-by-step guide for assembling a Mission Travel Stand and a Designa Portable Travel Stand.

Step 1 – Open out the tripod legs on the Mission Travel Stand to ensure the stand is stable and turn the knob to tighten it in position.

Step 2 – Raise the bracket support pole (the pole in the middle of the stand) and secure it in place by turning the knob.

Step 3 – Next, assemble the dartboard bracket together. The bracket for the Mission Travel Stand comes in multiple parts to help improve the stability of the stand. Use the two screws provided to attach the two parts together and form a cross shape with the bracket.

Step 4 – Using the screw that was supplied with your board, attach the screw through the centre hole of the dartboard bracket and to the back of your board.

Step 5 – Place the assembled dartboard bracket on top of the bracket support pole (the pole in the middle of the stand) and then secure it in place by turning the thumbscrew.

Step 6 – Make sure your dartboard is at the correct height. The bullseye (centre) of the board must be 5ft 8in (1.73m) directly above from the floor. Adjust the height by raising or lowering the bracket support pole and legs as required. Slot the pin on the bracket support in place for extra stability.

Stand for Electronic Soft Tip Dart Board

It is also worth considering what type of dartboard you have when picking a stand. The Bull’s Vibex H Mobile Travel Stand has been designed specifically for soft tip dartboards, and features a newly developed mount that is solely for electronic dartboards. The stand comes with a unique anti-wobble feature.

Where to put your darts stand?

Before you can set up your darts stand, first you will need to make sure there is enough room for it to go. There needs to be 8ft of room on the floor directly in front of where you will be putting the stand. This is so that you have plenty of space for the throwing line (oche) and can play from the correct distance.

You should also consider the surroundings in the room or location you are putting up your stand. Avoid setting it up near any valuable or fragile items, as stray darts or bounce outs could damage them. The stand should also not be put up in an area where people may walk across on their way to another room.

Benefits of using a dart board stand

There are many benefits to using a dart board stand whether you are playing at home or on your travels. A darts stand is portable so you can set up your board in many locations and it will be quicker than the traditional way of drilling holes in your wall to hang your dartboard up. You can quickly construct a full dart board setup and then take it down and pack it away when you’re not playing.

For players who are regularly travelling and want to play darts, a dartboard stand has many benefits. It will help you set up your board whilst on your travels, for example in a hotel room or a holiday home, and you can assemble the stand and be playing darts in no time at all!

A portable darts stand also has the benefit of being a perfect choice for youth players or wheelchair players. This is because you can simply adjust the height of the dartboard on the stand to make it lower. This makes the game easier for younger players who are just being introduced to darts for the first time. The regulation wheelchair height is 4ft 6in (1.37m).

How do I stop my dartboard stand from wobbling?

Stands will move slightly, but a dartboard that is wobbling too much during play can be distracting and can cause darts to fall out of the board, so it is important to make sure the screws are tight on the bracket of your darts stand. The stands on this page will provide you with a high level of stability for your dartboard, meaning that you will not experience the stand and board wobbling during play.

Check that the stand is on level ground and that all the legs are fully in contact with the floor. Opening the legs out will provide a more solid base, but you may have to raise the central pole as well to maintain the correct height.

The Bull's Vibex stands have an additional support which runs from the back of the stand to the leg. You can see more about these boards here:

Other ways to hang up a dartboard without drilling holes in the wall

Unicorn Hanging Dartboard

If you are looking for a portable darts setup that doesn’t involve drilling holes in the wall, a popular option is the Unicorn On Tour Door Hanging System. This is a particular favourite for players who are often travelling to play in darts tournaments and stay in hotels. A door hanger is an excellent choice for setting up a dartboard in your hotel room or apartment and is a quick and easy solution for when you want to practice away from the venue.

Other accessories for your darts setup

You can still take your darts seriously without having a dartboard fixed to your wall! Once you have chosen the dartboard stand for you, complete your new darts setup with our darts mats collection. A darts mat will ensure you are throwing from the correct distance and will also protect the floor in the room you are playing in from any damage if a dart falls out of the board. You can also roll up a darts mat and store it away when you’re not using it so it's perfect for temporary set-ups.

To help whilst on the move, look no further than the Mission Pro Tourer. This ruck sack is perfect for players who are travelling with their dartboard and the rest of their kit, as you can carry it all in one backpack. The Pro Tourer features specific compartments to hold a dartboard and a door hanger, as well as other sections for your clothes, wash bag and a shoe holder.
